The Medical Simulation Technician works with clinical content Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to script/translate clinical cases into a standardized SimLEARN format in order to enable other simulation specialists/technicians, instructors, faculty and SMEs nationally to consistenly reproduce each case in a simulation training scenario. The support will alos include conducting clinical simulation training and education in state of the art simulation environments in support of curricula designed by SimLEARN education and clincial experts and other clinical SMEs. Currently we have an opening for a full-time Simulation Technician located in Orlando, FL. 


  • Perform tasks during the setup, operation and tear down of various clinical patient simulators, to include high fidelity mannequins, advanced procedural task trainers, basic task trainers, and related medical equipment necessary for providing a highly-immersive training environment
  • Conduct equipment inventory, operations, control, and basic troubleshooting / maintenance, updates (including hardware and software)
  • Operate and maintain audiovisual equipment used in simulation-based clinical training
  • Support and assist in confederate role playing applications, prop placement, and moulage set-up to craft an immersive simulation training environment
  • Create technical documentation materials of best practices for use in clinical simulation equipment. Assist in or recommend the development of enhancements to clinical simulation technologies. Assist in the development of metrics and tools to assess effectiveness of clinical simulation.
  • Provide guidance and advice to staff personnel at field Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) simulation training centers regarding simulation and training equipment operations, control, procedures, and basic maintenance as well as interface with equipment vendors and technical support staff as needed
  • Prepare, audit, maintain, and organize paper and electronic training files, documents, and records. Follow standardized formats, templates, and instructions.
  • Compile, distribute, gather, audit, scan, and electronically file all required documents to support accredited training events and other activities
  • Configure and reconfigure classrooms and other training spaces; includes moving and placing tables, chairs, screens, and other items (light moving / lifting required)
  • Access and manage project data and documentation in VA, EES, and SimLEARN tracking systems with guidance from project managers / staff faculty to maintain accuracy, security, and integrity of data; access, print, prepare, and analyze periodic and special reports for assigned projects
  • Schedule and coordinate meetings in support of assigned National Center and Field Activity projects with internal and external stakeholders



  • Bachelor's degree that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a Clinical Healthcare subject-matter field appropriate to the position (to include Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Anesthetist, Physician Assistant, Physician, Paramedic, or military Corpsman, etc.); OR, Combination of education and experience--courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a Clinical Healthcare subject-matter field appropriate to the position (to include Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Anesthetist, Physician Assistant, Physician, Paramedic, or military Corpsman, etc.); plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a 4-year course of study described in A above.
  • A minimum of two (2) years full time experience in providing clinical education using simulation-based training as a primary modality for delivery required
  • Specialized experience includes demonstrated work experience setting up training rooms; controlling high-fidelity mannequins / patient simulators, assisting in the preparation, development, and use of educational materials; recommending adaption of educational materials to meet identified educational needs required
