Cadaveric Health Technician at the Naval Medical Research Center San Diego

Daily Responsibilities

  1. The Contractor shall provide cadaveric operating room support for research, education, and training courses relevant to Orthopedic Surgery, Otolaryngology, Ophthalmology, Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Anesthesiology, Neurosurgery, General Surgery, Critical Care, OB/GYN, and various trauma cases (pre-deployment).
  2. The Contractor shall provide cadaveric specimen preparation and clean-up services, which include intake and outgoing procedures.
  3. The Contractor shall be responsible for maintaining the BSTC equipment and devices in good working order.
  4. The Contractor shall be responsible for maintaining (inventorying and stocking) consumables stock, supply and preparation rooms, and specimen freezers.
  5. The Contractor shall be responsible for logging the temperatures daily of walk-in refrigerator and freezer.
  6. The Contractor shall be responsible for logging the fire extinguisher status and eyewash station status per Command instructions monthly.
  7. The Contractor shall coordinate with the Main Operating Room (MOR) and various departments to ensure equipment, devices, instrument tray, and disposable deliveries are received and set-up prior to event/course.
  8. The Contractor shall be responsible for instrument pull and set-up prior to training events.
  9. The Contractor shall be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing instruments and equipment.
  10. The Contractor shall be responsible for specimen preparation: thawing, tissue removal, hair removal, removing sheets/gowns in body bag, remove existing dressings, patches or wraps, and cleaning specimen for presentation.
  11. The Contractor shall ensure proper procedures are followed for the disposal of HAZMAT (hazardous materials) sharps, soiled linens, and transport of same to HAZMAT cage.


The HSS shall have a minimum of three (3) years of professional experience and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) / Bachelor of Science (BS) degree. The HSS performs all functional duties independently. Experience should include training in public speaking or teaching. Required skills include (but are not limited to) strong public speaking skills; problem-solving and analytical skills; flexibility with a dynamic and demanding travel schedule; ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the military and civilian personnel; Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Publisher, SharePoint, and Outlook); Adobe (Captivate and Photoshop); and the ability to maintain multiple projects. An active security clearance is required and must be a US citizen
