The McConnell Group,, a Health Science company, is sourcing candidates that will use medical technology to perform clinical lab testing.   The Clinical Lab Scientist will be required to work independently of immediate supervision and assume the initiative for prompt and accurate performance of tests with appropriate documentation and proper notification of abnormal results. This position also requires successful interactions with patients in a professional and caring manner when providing information or collecting specimens.

 Position Responsibilities:

  1. Independently performs all complexity levels of clinical tests. Exhibits skills and competency in applying technical principles and techniques of medical technology.
  2. Prepares and test new reagents or controls and evaluates their usefulness based on standard criteria.
  3. Performs test calibrations and runs quality control material at appropriate intervals. Evaluates the results of instrument performance checks. Performs linearity, accuracy and precision checks as required. Performs QC and calibrations with appropriate frequency and evaluates results to decide whether tests should be reported. Reports any shifts or trends to Management.
  4. Determines the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria in testing procedures.
  5. Determines calculated results utilizing testing data by means of manual or computerized procedures.
  6. Accurately enters results of testing. Checks the computer review reports to monitor accurate reporting of laboratory results.
  7. Evaluates the acceptability of routine analysis prior to releasing patient reports. Takes appropriate action in response to critical values or unusual or unexpected results and documents action taken.
  8. Responsible for performing preventative maintenance and/or calibration of laboratory equipment and properly documenting actions taken based on approved schedule.
  9. Recognizes problems and initiates troubleshooting steps to evaluate testing failures and other problems, if necessary. Notifies Management and contacts manufacturer for additional assistance or field support, if required.
  10. Accurately performs and records proficiency testing.
  11. Maintains a cooperative working relationship with coworkers, clients, and peers. Promptly and courteously answers the phone and assists clients and other departments concerning lab matters.
  12. Provides ongoing technical guidance to other company staff and new employees. Instructs and/or trains new employees in the proper performance of routine procedures.
  13. Monitors and maintains a consistent supply of reagents and consumables.


  • The Scientist is responsible for high volume specimen processing, high complexity molecular test performance and for reporting test results. Individual must be able to:
  • Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test performance and result analysis, reporting and maintaining records of test results;
  • Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens;
  • Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, perform and document assigned quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed;
  • Follow the laboratory's established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance;
  • Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the general supervisor or technical supervisor;
  • Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
  • Meet HIPAA requirements for the protection of health information and personal identifying information Assist the general supervisor in daily work responsibilities and training of new technicians Interacts routinely with other Research Technicians.

Minimum requirement of Bachelor's degree in science or health-related field. Practical Experience: 1-2 years in laboratory setting with experience in the use of molecular biology techniques while working in biosafety level two conditions; clinical laboratory experience would be preferred. Technical Qualifications: Attention to detail, ability to manage high volume workflow, and advanced organizational skills. Good computer skills. Interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
